Horizons Tutors 2011

So here’s to the big H! … a place full of good intentions and monumental changes, a magical place akin to a fictional castle full of bright kids undertaking big adventures, where the people and the friendships forged are everything but fictional.

And nothing, no nothing at all, could ever replace or explain what it is the 12 year old me and the 12 year old you felt that first and last day.

And so it goes. Another year becomes a decade, becomes another.

Summer doesn’t really begin till the group morning text informing me that it’s “Short’s day” (uh-duh), followed by epic fact of the day, followed by nonsensical joke-sing-song-along dancing erupts. And somewhere in between all that…  kids, bright as the sun type of kids, 150 bright as the sun type of kids- to be exact- are learning (eegads- in the summer you say??)

Yep. They are learning. Learning everything form engineering to student inclusive leadership roles and all the while loving each and every moment of it… trying to hang on to it all..

But one of the lessons I’ve learned about Horizons is in trying to capture its essence is like trying to capture the sun rays in your hands; you can’t ever contain it, but you feel its warmth knowing it is there and remembering that feeling for forever and always.

And so nothing, no thing at all, could ever replace or explain what it is the then 12 old me and the now 23 year old student for life, is still try to hang on to.
